Dr. Ginger’s Coconut Products – Our Story

Long before she was a young dental student at Loma Linda University, Dr. Ginger Price knew a couple things about herself: she loved to help people and she was a bit of a perfectionist. OK, maybe more than a bit, but there are worse qualities for dentists to have.

She was also blessed with an aesthetic eye, so it was a natural progression for her to leverage her fine arts background and begin specializing in cosmetic dentistry. It was a match made in heaven. Not only was she really, really good at creating smiles that perfectly complemented their owners (thanks, discerning eye!), but now she was able to help people in an especially meaningful way.

For over 35 years, Dr. Ginger, as she has become affectionately known, has been performing life-changing procedures on her beloved patients. Her expansive knowledge, exceptional skills, and remarkable patient rapport have earned her a reputation as one of the best and most trusted cosmetic dentists in the Phoenix, AZ area, as well as an international following.

But Dr. Ginger has never been one to rest on her laurels and didn’t stop there. In short, she has never been afraid of finding ways to do things better, and through her passion to stay on the cutting edge of cosmetic dentistry, she discovered a new need for her patients. One that required an immense amount of determination, and an even bigger amount of coconuts.

2014, her patients began to ask her about the practice of “oil pulling” and whether or not it was beneficial, so she took it upon herself to investigate. It turned out that oil pulling wasn’t a new way of doing things at all! In fact, it was a very old and very effective practice. And In spite of her love of progressive and cutting-edge things, the more she looked into this oil pulling, the more she realized that embracing an ancient process might just lead to the next big thing.

Oil pulling, or the practice of swishing plant oils around in your mouth with the aim of pulling out toxins and oral debris, dates all the way back to 5000 B.C., when it was first practiced on the Indian subcontinent by devotees of Ayurvedic medicine.

Nowadays, in the U.S at least, the preferred oil is coconut and the recommended duration of the “pull” is 20 minutes. Adherents claim oil pulling offers a host of benefits including, but not limited to, improved gum health, whiter teeth, fresher breath, boosted immunity, more energy, alleviation of skin ailments and relief from allergy symptoms.

Dr. Ginger’s research, as well as testimonials from people she knew and treated, confirmed the notion that oil pulling does indeed offer substantial benefits to oral and overall health. There were a couple of drawbacks, though. Many who tried oil pulling either found it to be inconvenient, the taste disagreeable or the effort too arduous.

It should be noted here that Dr. Ginger had long been exploring the idea of a natural alternative to the popular, chemical-laden toothpastes most Americans use. She’d already been a fan of organic foods and holistic remedies for many years and, in conversations with patients and friends, was constantly reminded that she was one among many.

It was becoming increasingly obvious to her that there was a growing need that wasn’t being met and, during her explorations into the world of oil pulling, things began to fall into place.

It’s always a beautiful thing when a strongly motivated creative talent gets ahold of a winning idea. Dr. Ginger knew that, with her education and years of experience, it wouldn’t be hard to come up with a basic coconut toothpaste formula. But she wanted her products to be more than basic – she was going for extraordinary – so she reached out to Dr. Martin Giniger.

With over 30 years’ experience in the field of oral care research and development, Dr. Giniger is the inventor of some of the world’s best toothpastes and teeth whitening formulas. Although Dr. Ginger realized her product would be different than anything Dr. Giniger had been involved with before, she knew his expertise in toothpaste formulation would lend her products the perfect flavor and consistency, without sacrificing wholesomeness.

And the rest is history (or perhaps too technical to recount). Suffice it to say Dr. Ginger and Dr. Giniger managed to create a product that surpassed even their own expectations. Luckily for Dr. Ginger, her only son, Reid, inherited both her business acumen and artistic bent, so she was able to tap him to take care of branding and product packaging. Superbly, we might add.
